Berlin, May 23, 2008. Today, acrolinx introduced the first version of the acrolinx IQ™ software that also checks Japanese. Japanese companies can now ensure that their publications meet international enterprise standards for clarity, comprehensibility, and consistency. The acrolinx Intelligent Reuse module of acrolinx IQ™ will also enable them to reuse their existing content.

Japan is one of the largest exporters of high-tech products in the world. Japanese companies have an enormous interest in optimizing the translatability of Japanese texts meant for a global market. However acrolinx also expects many Japanese businesses to deploy the acrolinx IQ™ tools for English, since English is often the source language of their publications.

acrolinx was easily able to find a Japanese partner for distribution and services. Sunflare, a successful distributor of Idiom products, is now the acrolinx contact in Japan.

Japanese presented acrolinx with several technical challenges. The language structure is completely different than English, German, or French, the languages that acrolinx has supported until now. Dr. Melanie Siegel, a Senior Linguist at acrolinx, and her team — Sachiyo Ogawa (acrolinx), Lars Yencken (University of Sydney), and Markus Ackerman (acrolinx) — were able to quickly solve these problems. "We built a new word segmentation component and morphology into the core linguistic processor," explains Dr. Siegel.

The first companies in Japan begin using the software this autumn.
